Girls basketball coach Stan Benge continues an amazing career.
Benge will enter the 2026-27 season just 14 wins from becoming the career leader in state history in girls basketball wins.
But first he and assistant coach Porchia Green have some all-stars to take care of.
Benge will coach the East squad in the annual McDonald’s High School All-Star game, his second appearance as head coach and third overall in this event. Not only Coach Benge, but also his assistant Coach Porchia Green.
The pair will coach the team on March 31, 2026, in Glendale, Arizona, at the Desert Diamond Arena. They will arrive in Arizona on Friday, March 27th. McDonalds is also providing both of them with flights and hotels. This is one of the highest honors you can receive as a high school basketball coach. Both of them are very grateful for this opportunity.
This is not the first time that Coach Benge has been a part of the McDonalds all star team. He was an assistant coach for the game in 1995, and then he was the head coach of the team in 2009.
This year in specific Benge was surprised by the fact that he was named the head coach.
“To me, it was a big surprise; it wasn’t ever a goal or anything I ever expected, so I was very, very surprised. And I feel honored, and I look forward to coaching this year’s team,” Benge said.
For Coach Green, on the other hand, this is her first time having the honor to participate in any type of coaching for the McDonalds all star game.
“Its a huge honor and a big accomplishment. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I’m very excited. I never thought this would happen. Coaching with a legend like Coach Benge has let me have this opportunity, and I am truly blessed.” Green said.
For both coaches, this is a huge deal
