Brewer finishes fourth in Big Ten

Purdue’s Jalil Brewer placed fourth of 25 in the shot put (64-2) and sixth of 30 in the discus (177-5) at the Big Ten Championships. The Boilers were sixth of 13 teams.

Zach Brickler placed 14th of 23 in the 1500 (4:22.11) for first place Trine in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships Meet.

Maurice Macklin helped Grace win the 18 schools National Christian College Athletic Association Championship Meet by placing fourth of 20 in the 800 (1:56.09) and being a member of the winning 4 X 800 relay team (7:48.58).

WOMENS OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD

Simi Akinrinsola placed 20th of 24 in the shot put (45-11) for 10th place Purdue at the Big Ten Championships.

BASEBALL

Central Methodist (43-6) won the Heart of American regular season title and then won the conference tournament. They begin play today at the NAIA Championships, hosting their region as the number one seed. The game can be seen live streamed on the Heart Conference Network (Heart Conference Network).

Isaiah Davis pitched 2 1/3 innings for CMU in the 10-5 loss to Mid-American Nazarene which was referred to in last week’s update and gave up four hits, two walks, and one earned run while striking out two. He has a 1-0 pitching record with a 3.48 ERA and has given up nine hits and five walks while striking out seven in 10 1/3 innings. In the final game of the season prior to the national tournament, a 6-5 defeat of Nazarene, Davis was a pinch runner. He has scored 25 runs in 40 games and has stolen five bases in seven attempts.

Parkland Community College (33-15) split two games with Lincoln Land, defeated Kankakee, and split four games with Heartland. Zion Avery had eight hits (including three home runs and one double), nine RBIs, six runs scored, and one stolen base in three attempts in 20 at bats in the seven games. He is hitting .363 (37 for 102) with 11 home runs, 39 RBIs, and four stolen bases in six attempts.
