Week ending January 4, 2020

FOOTBALL

Reese Taylor had one solo tackle for Indiana (8-5) in its 23-22 loss to Tennessee in the Gator Bowl.

Esezi Otomewo assisted on a tackle for a loss for Minnesota (11-2) in a 31-24 defeat of Auburn in the Outback Bowl.

Kailien Guillory played for Western Michigan (7-6) in a 23-20 loss to Western Kentucky in the First Responder Bowl in Dallas, Texas.

WOMENS BASKETBALL

DePauw (13-1) defeated Allegheny 69-50 and Hiram 94-45. Imani Graham had one point (0 for 0, 0 for 0, 1 for 2) , three assists, two steals, and one turnover in 15 minutes against Allegheny; and one point (0 for 0, 0 for 0, 1 for2), four rebounds, one steal, and one turnover in 15 minutes against Hiram.

Shelle Daniels had six points (3 for 11, 0 for 0, 0 for 0), a team high 11 rebounds, three steals, and three turnovers in 20 minutes for Tuskegee (7-7, 3-2) in a 54-52 loss to Benedict.

Erynn Young had team highs of 25 points (9 for 22, 0 for 3, 7 for 13), six assists, and 16 rebounds in 20 minutes for Lincoln (8-6) in a 121-37 win against Crowley’s Ridge. She also had two steals and five turnovers

MENS BASKETBALL

Michigan State (12-3, 4-0) defeated Illinois 76-56 and Michigan 87-69. Aaron Henry had 10 points (5 for 12, 0 for 3, 0 for 3), nine rebounds, two assists, and four turnovers in 33 minutes against the Illini; and six points (3 for 6, 0 for 0, 0 for 0), eight rebounds, one assist, two blocked shots, and one turnover in 24 minutes against the Wolverines.

Josh Brewer had six points (2 for 2, 2 for 2, 0 for 0) in six minutes for Miami, Ohio (7-7) in  a 93-82 loss to Central Michigan.

Lindenwood (8-3) defeated Missouri School of Science and Technology 78-73 and Maryville 81-76. Jalen Newsom played a total of nine minutes in the two wins and had three points (1 for 4, 1 for 4, 0 for 0) and two rebounds.

Jalen Windham had one rebound and two missed three point shots in two minutes for Creighton (12-3) in a 92-75 win against Marquette. He did not see action in a 71-57 loss to Butler.

Jeff Clayton played 21 minutes for Taylor (9-7, 1-3) in a 68-67 defeat of Spring Arbor and had three rebounds, two points (1 for 1), one blocked shot, and two assists.

FOOTBALL

Starting linebacker Asmar Bilal had four solo tackles and assisted on three others for Notre Dame (11-2) in a 33-8 defeat of Iowa State in the Camping World Bowl in Orlando.

Broc Thompson saw action for Marshall (8-5) in a 48-25 loss to Central Florida at the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa.

MENS BASKETBALL

Michigan State (10-3) defeated Western Michigan 95-62. Aaron Henry had 15 points (6 for 10, 1 for 3, 2 for 2), three rebounds, five assists, one steal, and two turnovers in 26 minutes for the Spartans.

Jalen Windham had 14 points (6 for 12, 2 for 6, 0 for 0), one rebound, one assist, two steals, and one turnover in 16 minutes for Creighton (11-2) in a 91-54 defeat of Midland.

WRESTLING

Purdue’s Dylan Lydy continued his amazing year by winning the prestigious Midland Tournament championship at 174 pounds. Ranked at No. 4 nationally, Lydy improved his record for the year to 20-0 with five wins, including one against the opponent from Army who eliminated him from last year’s NCAA tournament and the fifth ranked 174 pounder from Northern Iowa.

FOOTBALL

 Sir Zion Dance had one solo tackle and assisted on another for Marian (12-1) as the Knights fell 40-38 to Morningside, Iowa in the NAIA National Championship finals at Grambling, Louisiana.

WRESTLING

Purdue’s Dylan Lydy, now ranked fourth in the nation at 174 pounds, remained undefeated with a 12-4 major decision in the Boilermakers’ 35-9 defeat of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

WOMENS BASKETBALL

 Eryn Young scored 37 points and had 10 rebounds and four steals for Lincoln (6-5) in a 90-76 win against Roosevelt, Chicago.

Lakeland (3-7) lost 78-40 to Wisconsin-Parkside. Brianna Jones played six minutes for Lakeland and had two points (1 for 2, 0 for 0, 0 for 1), two rebounds, one steal, and one turnover.

DePauw (10-1) defeated Whittier 59-46 in a game played in California. Imani Graham had two rebounds and one turnover and didn’t attempt to score in 16 minutes of play.

Kentucky State (4-7, 1-3) lost 73-45 to Benedict and 70-69 to Alcorn State. Jessie Kee had six points (1 for 6, 1 for 3, 3 for 6), a team high eight rebounds, two assists, one steal, and two turnovers  in 39 minutes against Benedict and did not play in the Alcorn game.

MENS BASKETBALL

Michigan State (9-3) defeated Northwestern 77-72 and Eastern Michigan 101-48. Aaron Henry had three points (1 for 9, 1 for 5, 0 for 0), eight rebounds, five assists, and six turnovers against Northwestern and 12 points (4 for 6, 2 for 4, 2 for 2), a team high nine rebounds, six assists, two blocked shots, and two turnovers against EMU.

Miami, Ohio (6-6) lost 70-46 to Louisville and defeated Bradley 71-55. Josh Brewer played a total of 12 minutes in the two games and had three points  (1 for 2, 1 for 1, 0 for 0), one rebound, and one assist.

Lindenwood (6-3) defeated Avila 97-75 and Culver-Stockton 98-70. Jalen Newsome had three points (1 for 3, 1 for 3, 0 for 0 ) and one rebound in eight minutes against Avila; and three points (1 for 6, 1 for 4, 0 for 0), three rebounds, and two  assists in six minutes against Culver-Stockton.

Jeff Clayton had two rebounds and one turnover in four minutes for Taylor (8-7) in a 77-74 win against Webber International.
