Deiters opens season with Flight A win

MEN’S TENNIS

Marian opened its season with its annual Marian Doubles Tournament. Ian Deiters and his partner won the “Flight A” division of the event with an 8-2 win against Lawrence Tech in the quarterfinals, an 8-6 victory against Grace in the semi-finals, and an 8-3 defeat of a second Lawrence Tech team in the finals.

VOLLEYBALL

Purdue opened its season by winning its own Mortar Board Premier with 3-0 defeats of Oral Roberts, Cleveland State, and Alabama. Danielle Cuttino had a total of 39 kills in the three wins in 71 attempts, with seven errors. The senior also had three digs, two solo blocks, and assists on four other blocks. Shavona Cuttino played in eight of the nine sets and had seven kills in 17 tries with two errors, one dig, and assists on seven blocks.

Spring Arbor (5-3) defeated William Baptist 3-0 and Trinity International 3-1, and lost 3-0 to Judson and 3-1 to I.U. South Bend. Alyssa Walker had 24 kills in 81 attempts with 11 errors, 14 digs, two service aces, four service errors, two solo blocks, and one blocking assist in the four matches.

I.U. EAST opened its season by winning one of four matches in both the Huntington Forest Invitational and the Life Invitational. The Red Wolves defeated Robert Morris 3-0 and lost 3-0 to Huntington and Grace and 3-1 to Missouri Valley at Huntington. They defeated Martin Methodist 3-0 at Life and lost 3-0 to Mobile and Life and 3-1 to William Carey. Madison Yoder had three kills in 18 attempts with two errors, 66 digs, 10 assists, eight service aces, 10 service errors, and one block in the eight matches.
