Quick Hits: Week of May 11-May 18
Ben Davis:
-The girls softball team went 3-1 last week, defeating Plainfield, Warren Central and Cathedral, while losing to Martinsville. The team is 12-12 on the season. Sectional pairings also came out this week, and they will be playing Southport in the first round of the playoffs.
-Boys golf played two matches last week, with a close 165-161 loss to Bishop Chatard (Daniel Eanes 37) and a 12th place finish in the Mooresville Invitational (Isaiah Rose-Lebeau 81). They play in the MIC tournament today.
-Girls tennis made it to the semi-final of the Marion County tournament before falling to North Central last week, and fell to Greenwood 3-2 in a close match later in the week. They play their final match of the regular season tomorrow night against Lawrence North after Senior Night festivities today..
-Boys and girls track put up a strong showing at the Marion County meet, with the boys finishing 2nd and the girls finishing 4th. The girls play in sectionals at Decatur Central on Wednesday.
-New coaches were introduced this week for Ben Davis: Lori Lux (volleyball), Kyle Roach (girls soccer) and Ryan McMaster (boys cross country).
Local:
-Scott Dixon won his second Indy 500 pole in a rain-filled weekend of IndyCar. The 99th running of the Indianapolis 500 is this Sunday so expect delays on the roads near the Speedway.
National:
-American Pharoah won the Preakness stakes last weekend, and is one Belmont win away from the coveted Triple Crown.
-The second round of the NBA playoffs are over and the conference finals are set: Cavaliers vs. Hawks and Warriors vs. Rockets.
