Tennis team opens home portion of season
Boys host Bishop Chatard tonight
The boys tennis team kicks off the home portion of its schedule tonight against Bishop Chatard.
Veteran coach Kevin Vanderbush sat down to discuss the upcoming season.
Who is the main team we should look out for?
“As for our sectional opponents, the main rival is typically Covenant Christian High School. Covenant and Ben Davis are the only two schools that have won our sectional in the past 22 years. As for our regular season, in dual matches our toughest opponent is most likely Brownsburg. In the MIC tournament we are most likely to face Carmel or North Central at some point in the draw, and in the County tournament Brebeuf or Park Tudor are typical favorites.”
What are your goals for this year?
“We would like to improve on last year’s record (14-7), and feel like we are a better team than we were last year.”
How do you determine who your number one player is?
“In tennis we play challenge matches to determine who the best player is, and that player competes in the #1 singles position. Ian Deiters is our number one player this year.”
The Giants are 2-0 after beating Pike 5-0 and Whiteland 4-1 on the road already this week.
