Junior quaterback Kyle Castner scores a touchdown during a 35-14 win over Avon. The Giants host Pike Friday for the Class 6A Sectional 5 championship.

As the Ben Davis Football team sets to take on Pike this Friday, coach Mike Kirschner and the team knows what it takes to win this game.

Kirschner has seen a couple of keys during the Giants current six-game winning streak, which started with a 49-48 overtime win against Pike.

“Better focus and better detail as a team, but we also need to work a little better as a team to improve,” Kirschner said. “You cannot beat yourself on your own mental mistakes which kept us from winning last year vs. Pike (a 35-25 sectional loss). This year we look to make slight mistakes.”

Senior receiver Sean Boswell is ready for the rematch with Pike. Boswell’s looking to improve against Pike with some motivation from himself and his team. Boswell is also looking to execute what the coaches have told and taught him and have trust in his team.

“Everybody has done their job and done what they have had to do, and we’ve had a lot of focus on the field,” Boswell said.

Kirschner knows why Pike won last year’s sectional matchup and he is confident the Giants will be ready this year.

“Once the ball is kicked it doesn’t matter at all what the guys have done, it matters what they do on the field that counts,” Kirschner said.

Boswell and the team are ready for Friday vs. Pike.  Kickoff is at 7 p.m. with the winner advancing a Class 6A regional matchup against either Warren Central or North Central.
