My Idea of art goes far beyond opinions but if we were to speak on the topic of art being objective I would have to disagree.
There are artworks like the Mona Lisa, Starry Night etc. which I myself believe are amazing, but I would also understand why one wouldn’t really like them.
Generally speaking, this art conveys shadowing, lighting, rendering, and coloring very nicely especially for an art made around the 1800s, but I do believe that it is overrated and better yet almost mediocre, but notice how I said “I” and not just “it is.”
This just shows how opinionated the idea of art is. Art isn’t something for everyone to like rather for the interest of the artist and the people they are messaging it to. Art is meant to be something that is either aesthetically pleasing, relatable or just an idea created into a canvas.
I can recall a time I was creating a piece of art genuinely thinking it was probably one of the best art ever created. I showed my friends, and their faces said otherwise.
They explained to me everything that I could possibly change, but I noticed that those were the features I loved the most. That really altered the way I viewed art because I finally understood why even the art I don’t really find interesting others might find amazing. Initiated by viewing art just by the look, I took my time to understand the process and what people were seeing when making the art. Instead of just judging based on what I saw I tired piecing the puzzle together to understand the vision the person who created the art had because everyone thinks and sees things differently.
