Summer is finally here, and for high school students it is their time to have fun but, fun can also come with some dangers.
Teenagers should find safe things to do like joining a sports team or doing something fun and safe with their friends. It is always fun to make new friends and enjoy socializing, but when doing so you need to be aware.
When talking to new people you should be aware of your surroundings and never be alone or somewhere where nobody is at. You should avoid risky situations, such as parties where alcohol and drugs are involved.
Make sure if you are going out with friends you have a secure way to get home safely. Summer is a time for making memories but it is also a time to make responsible decisions and value your safety.
If you are somewhere where alcohol or drugs are involved you should remove yourself from that environment. When being involved in things like that, so much can go wrong. For teenagers alcohol is extremely dangerous, it can cause things like permanent brain damage, death, poisoning, risky behavior, long term health problems, and more. Around 4,000 teens die from alcohol per year.
Summer also comes with a lot of water fun so, when going anywhere near water make sure you know your limits and feel safe. If you do not know how to swim you can always take swimming lessons and learn before going to any pool or beach.
