Winter guard repeats as state champs
Giants enter spring break with four Top 10 state finishes
For the second year in a row, the Ben Davis Winter Guard started spring break with a state championship.
“The hard work most definitely paid off,” senior Sydney Grays said moments after the Giants were named state champions of the Open Division at Center Grove High School. “This feels amazing.”
The Giants scored 82.8 points to repeat as state champions. It capped a remarkable day for the Ben Davis performing arts department, who also saw the Premiers choir finish seventh in the state and the winter percussion group finish fourth in state. The winter percussion state finals were hosted at Ben Davis.
In addition, the BD boys track team won the Hoosier State Relays Indoor Title Saturday, giving Ben Davis four Top 10 state finishes in one day.
Winning a state title never gets old.
“It’s just as exciting as last time, and the hard work pays off every time,” senior Nicayla Cleveland of her winter guard teammates. “And I loved it.”
