As the school year comes to an end, it is important to know what is happening around the school. And something important that you should know about is our new finals policy.
Seniors who have completed their course requirements or show proficiency in class standards may be excused from the final assessment. They would also be excused from those final days of school, which allows opportunities for staff to schedule tutoring sessions to help students fulfill graduation requirements.
For those seniors who have completed their course requirements or shown proficiency in class standards, grades will be pulled on May 28th at 4 pm. For seniors who will not be excused from finals, teachers will determine if they will have you do a final or a final project. If any senior only needs to do 1 final a day, there will be study hall blocks and each block is 2:30 hours. The daily finals schedule is included in this post.
If a student comes to school late with an unexcused tardy then they will be held in the study hall, and they will not be allowed to interrupt the testing environment. Any senior with dual credit with a required final will take the final the week of May 26th. Beware that other classes potentially could require a final unit test or project before exempting them from finals week.
If any student plans on being late on finals week, contact the attendance line as normal and if you plan to leave early, call 30-45 minutes in advance. Sophomores and juniors will not be exempt from any finals and are expected to show up in the last week of school.
“This week allows us time to support students who need extra support and enrich those students who have mastered the content,” principal Sandra Squire said. “Teachers will either administer a traditional final during the block or will access learning through a final project, critique, reflection activity or other alternative methods. We expect students to be in attendance to show mastery of their learning and participate in engaging and relevant projects.”
So seniors get those grades up so you can potentially be excused from finals. And sophomore and juniors, start studying and be ready to show your learning from this semester.
