Ben Davis High School opened in 1892 and has evolved over time. The school has been under construction multiple times, and will most likely continue throughout the years.
Some may be concerned about the construction at BD, so here is some information for you about it.
The construction is expected to last at least one more year. The construction started the day after the 2023-24 school year. Right now, the former front office space is being redesigned and will include a new health clinic and new offices.
It’s coming along very well, and they have made the cafeteria a lot larger and the same for the main office. The construction is good because it makes our school look better on the outside, and is larger in some spots on the inside.
“The cafeteria is newly renovated and I like it, but I feel like the walls are too white,” senior Kelly Ambrocio Vazquez said. “It reminds me of a hospital. It’s still nice to see the renovation and change.”
The construction started because they wanted to make the cafeteria larger for less lunch groups and so the office is nicer and bigger. It also helps with navigating places and having more space to walk in common areas.
Thankfully the construction doesn’t disrupt the student from learning or getting places, so that is definitely a good thing.
Though some students may be frustrated with it because they may need to find different routes to classes, it has its benefits and makes the school better and improved.
“I got really lost the few first days and I had no idea where I was going, but I managed to get through by asking for help from other students,” sophomore Katherine Dubon said.
The construction is safe, so no kid should get hurt. Even when walking along the construction lines to get to their bus or car.
The constructions help the kids feel respected and seen. This is because after all the complaints about the cafeteria being too small, they fixed it to show that their opinion matters too.
