Ben Davis has always been a powerhouse in Indiana’s high school sports scene, and there has been no drought of excitement for the class of 2025. Their 4-year journey hasn’t been a forgettable one. From state championships to historic moments, the legacy this class has left behind will never be forgotten.
The biggest highlight of these past four years has to of been that our football and boys basketball teams where both state champions in 2023 — basketball with a perfect record of 34-0, ranked, 10th in the country and football going 13-1, only losing to IMG which was a top 5 team in the country, and Ben Davis ranked 19th.
If you ask anyone in this school who the best athlete of the class of 2025 is, we can almost guarantee they will say Mark Zachary. He is a 4-star football player committed to Notre Dame, and he was also a star basketball player. He was a key player in both of the school’s state championships in the past four years.
When Zachary was asked how does being a star athlete and always being in the spotlight helps you grow as a person, he said, “It’s definitely a blessing, just going around people knowing who I am and making sure I keep my character in check. Having an impact on the school means a lot to me, not just athletically, but also having a good character and helping others is something I’m very passionate about, and I am very glad that I am in this position.”
The highlight of this school year has to be boys cross country. For the first time in 25 years, the boys cross country team qualified for state. Although they didn’t win state, it was still a huge accomplishment for the team with lead runners in junior Aboubakar Ibrahim and senior Finan Doyle.
Boys soccer also had an outstanding year, winning both the Marion County tournament and the sectional title.
Girls volleyball saw steady improvement during the seniors time at Ben Davis, steadily improving through the four years. Though state-level competition wasn’t its strong suit, the progress was visible to all who watched.
During the senior’s sophomore year, Ben Davis re-introduced boys volleyball to its boys roster. Although the team has also struggled in the state tournament, the program has seen major improvement. Boys volleyball is on the rise in Ben Davis and hopes to keep improving. This year marked the first time the sport has been an official IHSAA sport. Girls wrestling also debuted this year as an official IHSAA sport.
As the Class of 2025 prepares to graduate, they do so with heads held high, knowing they’ve left a lasting impact on the school. They helped write one of its most impressive chapters yet.
