Damaar, a war metal band from the war torn country of Lebanon, formed in 2004 and were forced to disband in 2007 for safety reasons because of the religious extremism and theocracy that Lebanon was placed in at the time.
For this, I chose to review their one and only demo ever released, Triumph Through Spears of Sacrilege. This album was released in 2007 soon before they disbanded, when it was released it was never put out through any labels until they were able to put it out through the label Nuclear war now! Productions located in Austin Texas.
The lineup for this album has three members, Napalm (Nabil) on drums, Nunrider (Safa) on guitars, and Heathen (Nadim) on Vocals and bass.
The tracklist of this album only includes 5 songs and a total running time of 19 minutes and 39 seconds.
Tracklist:
- فسق. (Debauchery) 1:16
- Preaching for Mass Suicide 5:11
- The Goatphoenix 5:42
- Desecration (Blasphemy Cover) 2:15
- Ode to Blasphemy (Onward to the Gates of Mekka) 5:15
The name Damaar means destruction in Arabic. The group disbanded and there were rumors that they had escaped their war torn nation by going to Australia, but there has been nothing on any of the members after they disbanded.
Overall, I think this might be one of, if not the most aggressive and savage war metal band to ever exist, most war metal bands sing about war and death while not ever experiencing it firsthand, unlike the members of Damaar.
