Marshall opened its season with a 59-0 defeat of Eastern Kentucky. Sophomore wide receiver Broc Thompson caught five passes for 67 yards, with a 26 yard catch his longest.

MENS SOCCER

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods (1-0-1) defeated Oakland City 2-0 and tied S. Francis 1-1.  Taiwo Anifowese played defense for the Pomeroy in both matches. Andrew Acietuno was in the goal for St. Mary in both matches and had four saves in 90 minutes in the shutout of Oakland City and three saves while yielding one goal in 110 minutes in the deadlock with St. Francis.  Victor Villagomez assisted on the first goal against Oakland city and took one shot. He also took one shot against St. Francis. Fatoke Anjolaoluwa played in both matches and took two shots, one on goal, against Oakland City. Fausto Lopez-Ibarra also played in both matches and had one shot on goal against Oakland City.

Elijah Minaya saw action for Oakland City (0-1) in the 2-0 loss to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. In a 1-0 loss in a junior varsity match with Marian, Minayo was in the goal for 45 minutes and had one save while allowing the one goal. Teammate Isaac Torres took the shots, one on goal, in the loss.

Marian opened its season with a 3-1 loss to Asbury. Abel Alvarez had one assist on the goal that tied the match at 1-1 and also took one shot. The Knights’ next match is on Wednesday and will be live streamed.
