Undefeated Giants face huge road testLast Friday night’s football game against Pike put us as 3-0 on the season. We defeated Pike 69-34. Our high-powered offense is averaging 56.6 points a game, establishing a school record by scoring 170 points in their first three games.

That offense will be put to the test tonight by Center Grove. We have lost to Center Grove three times in a row. In 2016 we lost 20-7, then in semistate we lost to them 42-22 and then in 2015 we lost 31-19.

Center Grove has a 2-1 record. They lost to Warren Central 27-24. They had a big win against Carmel with a 31-10 score. Center Grove beat Carmel with a 14-year-old freshman named Carson Steele, who won’t turn 15 until October 21. This 14-year-old had 238 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Coach Mike Kirschner is pleased with where his team stands after three weeks.

“I thought that we were very good on offense and took care of the ball and were efficient with our possessions. I thought our defense played well at times and at other times had mental lapses that were unacceptable,” Kirchner said.
“For this week’s game against Center Grove our goal is to play with great emotional and mental focus, playing one of the top teams in the state and country – anything less than our best will be a mistake,” Kirchner said.

Kirschner is well aware of what it will take to win.

“The biggest challenge would be to stop their excellent running attack – they have the ability to control the line of scrimmage,” Kirchner said.
