Week of March 27

SOFTBALL

 Indian Wesleyan (18-6, 5-3) swept two games with Bethel and Spring Arbor, split two with Huntingdon, and lost two to Taylor.  Kaisey Carson had 19 hits in 30 at bats in the eight games, including seven home runs (one in six of the eight games), and 20 RBIs.  She is batting .586, second in the nation among NAIA schools, and leads the nation in home runs and RBIs and is fifth in runs scored. The senior is also a valuable pitcher with an 8-3 record and a 2.05 ERA in 75 innings on the mound.

Eastern Illinois (17-15) split two games with Belmont and defeated Tennessee State twice. Kayla Bear had five hits, including a double, in 12 at bats in the four games and had one RBI and seven stolen bases. The sophomore has started each of EIU’s 30 games and is hitting .353 (36 for 102) and has stolen 23 bases in 23 attempts.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Illinois State (28-7) lost 63-62 to Central Florida in the second round of the NIT. Tony Wills played 23 minutes for ISU and had 11 points (4 for 6, 3 for4, 0 for 0), five rebounds, one assist, two blocked shots, one steal, and three turnovers.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Texas State (16-15) lost 66-62 to Eastern Washington in the first round of the Women’s NIT.  Texas Tech’s Amber Jones had four points (2 for 4, 0 for 0, 0 for 0), three rebounds, one blocked shot, and two turnovers in 21 minutes.

WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Marian’s Destiny Patterson finished 15th of 20 in the 100 meter dash (13.65) at the Stan Lyons Invitational at Butler. At the Pioneer Invitational at Lexington, Kentucky, hosted by Transylvania, Patterson was fourth of 18 in the 100 in 13.67. The competition at Butler was made up primarily of runners from Division One schools, while the opponents at Lexington were primarily from Division Two and Three schools.

MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Illinois State’s Jordan Wilkerson was 12th of 33 in the 100 meter dash (10.95) at the Ole Miss-Joe Walker Invitational at Oxford, Mississippi.  The freshman was also a member of the winning 4 X 100 meter relay team (41.19).

MEN’S TENNIS

Marian (14-6) defeated Lindenwood-Belleville 5-4 and St. Joseph’s 8-1. Ian Dieters won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles and lost 6-1, 7-6 at No. 4 singles against Lindenwood; and won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles and 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles against St. Joseph’s.

Ohio Wesleyan (10-5, 0-1) lost 6-3 to Denison and 8-1 to Oberlin.  Jacob Volbers lost 8-2 at No. 2 doubles to Denison and 8-4 at No. 2 doubles to Oberlin.

BASEBALL

Cody Turpen has played in 15 games, starting eight, for Marian (8-12) and is batting .200 (2 for 10) with one RBI and four runs scored.
