Hahn returns to BD

Former assistant brings Center Grove here for a conference tilt

Zach Hahn is coming home. Sort of. And it is homecoming weekend at that.

For the past three years Hahn helped coached the Ben Davis boys basketball team after he put together a stellar playing career at Butler. Friday night he returns to the Ben Davis gymnasium, this time as head coach at conference rival Center Grove.

“I am excited to see familiar faces and catch up with people before the game,” Hahn said. “BD was a great place for me to begin my teaching and coaching career and I am so thankful for the opportunity they gave me.”

Hahn won a Class 3A state title while playing at New Castle. He is learning a lot in his first season as a head coach.

“I am learning a great deal about the amount of work it takes to run a high school program,” he said. “I am extremely proud of the changes my players and program have made thus far with the understanding that we still have a long way to go.”

Hahn’s Center Grove team is 9-4 while the Giants are 10-4. After Friday’s game — which is winter homecoming for the Giants — Ben Davis will host Decatur Central on Saturday before facing Franklin Central, Carmel and Martinsville in a five-day span beginning Tuesday.

Hahn has paid special attention to the Giants this season. With good reason.

“I obviously want Ben Davis to be successful because I have had a part in developing the program and players there for the past three seasons,” he said. “I want them to win every game but one on their schedule. I am happy for the staff and team on the success they have had thus far this season and wish them the best the rest of the way.”

Friday’s game will feature the crowning of Mr. and Mrs. Giants during halftime ceremonies.
