The No. 1 rated Ben Davis boys track teams hosts its annual Ben Davis Relays Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.

The Giants are coming off a 79-59 win Wednesday over rival Warren Central. Senior Moussa Conde took first both hurdle races, the pole vault and 4 by 400 relay. Demarco Henry won the discus, DeAndre Bluitt won the high jump and Jalil Brewer lead a 1-2-3 sweep in the shot put.

In the running events, David Behrmann won the 3200 meters, Aaron Murray took the 400 meters, and the 4×800 relay also took first.

“We have a good depth, especially in our field events,” coach Mike Davidson said.

Davidson looks at the relays as a chance to see where the team stands early in the season.

“With the distance added together for the field events, this should be a strength,” Davidson said. “We also have good sprint and distance depth, which should help  us cover the many different running relays at the meet.”

Saturday’s relays includes teams from Avon, Bloomington North, Center Grove, Pike, Portage, Sycamore and Zionsville.

“Our goals are always to improve throughout the year, and to be in a position to contend championships when the state tournament comes around,” Davidson said.

Saturday’s meet starts at 11 a.m. and runs until approximately 2:30 p.m. It is the only BD sport with a contest Saturday.
