Girls golfers off to impressive start

Team tees off to 7-0 record

The girls golf team improved to 7-0 for the first time in coach Dave Patz’ coaching career Tuesday afternoon.

The girls shot a 182 to beat Avon (187) and North Central (202) in a dual meet at Prestwick.

Coach Patz thinks balance has been the key to the start.

“The team has five players that are all very similar, so, we do not have a true number one golfer,” he said. “In fact, we have had three different girls medalist of the match: Ellie Neff, Claire Thompson, and Madyson Elmore.”

The girls started 6-0 each of the last two years before losing to Avon. The girls next match is Friday at Oak Tree against Plainfield.

“The girls have been very focused in practice,” Patz said. “This is one of the most fundamentally sound teams I have coached.  So, I do not think this team has played near as well as they are capable of playing.”
In other Ben Davis sports Tuesday, the boys soccer team lost 3-1 at Carmel.
