It was the story of two quarters Friday night at the Ben Davis girls basketball sectional.

The host Lady Giants used a suffocating defense in the third quarter to turn a 31-19 halftime deficit into a 42-37 lead going into the fourth quarter. Then Roncalli went on a 9-0 run to open the final quarter en route to a 66-58 win that sent the lady Giants home with a 13-8 record.

Senior Natalie Howard and junior Kansas Robinson each scored 13 points in the losing cause. Roncalli went on to win the sectional championship over Perry Meridian on Saturday night.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Ben Davis had a 12-point gain and moved up two spots from last year at the Brownsburg swim sectional Saturday. Every swimmer who competed Saturday dropped their best time for the season.

Below are the BD results:

  • 200 Medley Relay team of Haven Papineau, Kayla Papineau, Stephanie Ticen, and Nallely Villasenor placed 6th and dropped four seconds! 
  • 200 Free: Stephanie Ticen placed 12th. Reese Kent placed 16th. 
  • 200 IM: Kayla Papineau placed 13th. Rocio Klein placed 16th.
  • 50 Free: Nallely Villasenor placed 13th. Elie Coleman placed 15th. 
  • 100 Fly: Stephanie Ticen placed 9th. Rocio Klein placed 13th. 
  • 100 Free: Nallely Villasenor placed 12th. Elie Coleman placed 15th.
  • 500 Free: Haven Papineau placed 9th. Reese Kent placed 14th.
  • 200 Free Relay: Team of Jennifer Balmez, Kayla Papineau, Elie Coleman, Reese Kent placed 6th. 
  • 100 Back: Haven Papineau placed 11th.
  • 100 Breaststroke: Kayla Papineau placed 15th. 
  • 400 Free Relay team of Haven Papineau, Reese Kent, Stephanie Ticen, and Nallely Villasenor placed 7th.
Bold denotes a best time.
That concludes the season for the girls while the boys host Southport tomorrow.
WRESTLING
Ben Davis finished 10th in the Mooresville regional Saturday and will have three wrestlers competing at the Evansville semistate this weekend.
Wrestlers advancing include senior Diesel Duncan at 138 pounds, senior  Anfernee Oliver at 145 pounds and senior Kailan Keith at 160.
BOYS BASKETBALL
The boys improved to 9-9 with a 54-51 win at Avon Saturday afternoon. The boys host Covenant Christian Tuesday and Lawrence North Friday.
