Next year Wayne Township will make a switch to a schedule that includes a late start every Monday and four days of professional development for teachers where student do not attend school.
We asked around school the question: ¨What are your thoughts and opinions on the Wayne township schedule change?¨
Heather Dewey
- ¨From a teacher’s perspective, I think it’ll be helpful because we’ll be able to dedicate our time to key elements about being a teacher and interests; therefore it’ll make us better teachers for our students. ¨
Christopher Curtis
- ¨I don’t think it’s gonna do anything in the long run for the kid’s education and Wayne Twnship. It’s just a change we’re told to do, but we won’t see the benefit of it right now.¨
Fatima Diallo
- “I feel like we should’ve had that because it’s not fair we’re getting that now that we’re almost done with school. They should’ve implemented that rule sooner. ¨
Rossellini Murillo
- ¨ I feel like it’s a good thing because we won’t have as many assignments and we will get a good start to the week. We also will have more time to eat and get ready before school.”
- ¨
Ismael Guzman
- “I think it’s cool, but I won’t get to see the benefits of the rule because I’m a senior, but I think it really would’ve helped me do better in school because i would have more energy and be in a better mood for school.”
Judith Chavez
- “I think it’s a good idea because we get more sleep, therefore the more energy we will gave in school and we don’t have to be rushing so we will be more organized for school.”¨
Ms. Carreto
- “From a teacher’s perspective, I think it gives us more time to create and enhance our lessons, and I think it will relieve stress from grading assignments. From a student perspective, I’ve heard students mention that they won’t come to school on Mondays because it’s not a full day. We as teachers should try to make the day count for them too, even if it’s a short day.”
Ms. Gannon
- “The school I worked at before had a late start day and it worked well for teachers. It was the day we had school meetings, met as a department and in small groups to plan, grade and attend professional development. The downside was that those days we had a lot of student absences. It was in place for a few years and then it was faced out. I believe starting at 7:30 each day as we do now, gives us sufficient time to do those things.”
