New safety policies announced for football games

Wayne Township superintendent Dr. Jeff Butts announced new safety policies for Ben Davis football games that will begin with Friday’s home game against Pike.

The new policies are:

  1. Gate #3 on the north side of the building is for VISITORS only.  Visitors park on the north side and come in this gate.  The fence between the visitor side and home side near the visitor locker rooms will be closed.  No adults or students will be allowed to cross at this area.  If you have used this parking and gate to come watch BD, please do not do so.
  2. Gate #2 on the home side is for STUDENTS only.  All students in grades 7-12 must enter at this gate and show their student ID.  If they are not a student in Wayne Township, they will be asked to go to the visitor side.  All elementary age students should be accompanied by an adult and can come through Gate 1.  If a secondary student is accompanied by a parent, the parent can come through Gate 2 but the student will still be asked to produce a student ID.
  3. The gate at the fieldhouse will not be open for admittance into the game.  Players who have historically come through this gate (JV/Freshman) will come through Gate 2 with their student ID.  Complimentary tickets will be given to certain teams as has been the usual practice, and these players will sit in a section on the field with their coach.
  4. Students should NOT bring backpacks to the game.  Please leave backpacks at home or in lockers.  All bags will be thoroughly searched at the gates.  Please plan accordingly.

As we continue to work towards the safest environments possible, it’s possible that other changes may be forthcoming. Gates open at 6:00 for Friday night football games and we will move the lines as quickly as possible. The new security measures for the stadium may take more time, but improving the safety of everyone involved is important. Please plan to arrive a little earlier so that you can have the best experience possible.
