Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and we’re all excited to eat some delicious food. But what if I told you that not everyone eats the same thing on Thanksgiving?
Traditional American Thanksgiving meals consists of stuffing, turkey, and potatoes, but it’s also a holiday and celebration for diverse cultures. A lot of different cultures eat things such as beans, rice, and different kinds of meals people may not know about.
So let me introduce you to some more. Carribean families eat Jamican curry goat with rice and peas. They also eat jerk turkey and or oxtails.
East Asian families eat chinese style potlucks with sides like lo mein and korean-glazed turkey. European families eat greek stuffing, Italian gnocchi, and swedish hassleback potatoes. Latin Americans eat Columbian sobrebarriga, with mexican style turkey, with mexican tamales.
And lastly, South Asia families eat rice, meat dishes, and a typical Thanksgiving food.
I’m sure there are so many more dishes and meals different cultures enjoy to make and eat.
Many families use their legacy and heritage to create creative combinations to make good food. Not only do they make sure there food it good, but it also tells a story of their life and the many traditions and celebrations they have. Hopefully this has inspired you to try something new this year and to celebrate the diverse and different cultures around you.
