For the last three years, Dr. Butts has held an art competition for the entire township. Each school in Wayne Township submits one piece of their best artwork to be displayed at the Education Center.

For Wayne Township, art has always been an important subject for our students to explore and Ben Davis is home to a future local artist.

On March 12th, Dr. Jeff Butts chose two winning pieces, one for the grade schools and one for the secondary category. He purchased both works for $100 each.  Ben Davis senior, Michaela Williams, was the winner for the secondary award.

The art work can now be seen show cased in the front of the Education Center on South High School Road. It will continue to be displayed throughout the year.

Williams has been an artist her entire life, from the day she first picked up a crayon as a toddler she has known her calling. She enjoys drawing imaginary, surreal scenes. Using her imagination is what creates her beautiful works of art.

Williams spends most of her time drawing using anything from a colored pencil to sharpie markers.

“I am very happy to have my art work on display, it is great honor,” Williams said. “I love art and spending my time creating new things.”

She is very interested in a future career focusing on illustration and animation.

Art is such an endless array of possibilities, and she finds her muse within that array.
