Cephalotripsy is a brutal death metal band from San Diego, California. They formed in 2003 then split in 2012 but returned in 2017 and have been active since.
The album I’ve chosen to review is their second full-length album Epigenetic Neurogenesis, released July 13, released independently, not on a label. The band’s lineup for this album has Angel Ochoa on vocals, Andres Guzman on guitars, Diego Sanchez on bass and backing vocals, and Albert Rios on drums.
Epigenetic Neurogenesis has nine songs and a running time of 32 minutes and 17 seconds.
Tracklist:
- Indignation of Cronos
- Alpha Terrestrial Polymorph
- Ulcerated Mass of Pestilent Engorgement
- Excision of Self
- Arcane Rights of the Transdimensional Progeny
- Epigenetic Neurogenesis
- Lo Tech Non Entity
- Entrenched in Fluids of Enigmatic Predation
- Induced Primordial Regression.
There is an official lyric video for the title song “Epigenetic Neurogenesis.”
Tracks 3, 5, and 8 have been floating around on demo tapes and a split EP since 2011, finally getting revamped and polished for this album.
Overall, I think this album is great, but it’s a big step back from their first full length, granted that was 17 years prior and all the members have changed aside from the vocalist Angel Ochoa, I still believe this album is a solid 8/10.
