Conan Gray’s Wishbone is a listening experience that journeys through a breakup and it’s stages.
Wishbone is a pop album, released August 15, 2025. This album has 12 songs. It starts with “Actor” and ends with “Care”.
The two singles of this album are “This song”, one of my personal favorites of the album, and “Vodka Cranberry”. A few songs I really liked were “Caramel” and “Connell”.
“Caramel is about romanticizing the past,” Gray said.
In this song, he compares sticky caramel to the way the mind may trick people into seeing only the good moments of a past relationship, making them want someone back into their lives.
This is vividly shown in the verse, “Promises spoken, all coming back as lies but you with your sub-sweet kiss is all I miss in the back of my mind”.
This shows that despite acknowledging the bad things that happened to end the relationship, the good parts are what you want most to remember which will make it harder to let go. I also really enjoyed “Connell”.
“Connell” is about a heartbreak due to someone not as committed to the relationship.
“You remind me of how good it feels to hurt. Yeah, you remind me of how little I deserve,” Gray sings.
I really liked this lyric because it sounds insane but some people find comfort in their sadness. When this state has been your emotional normal for so long, it’s difficult accept anything else.
This difficulty of acceptance may cause us to think we deserve less. Another verse that I enjoyed is from “Care”.
“Mistook who you are for who you could be,” Gray said.
I liked this verse because it’s important to see people for who they tell and show you they are, not what they could be. If you view people as what they could be, it could cause so much more heartbreak.
The thing I liked most about this album is that there were sad songs with a happy uplifting beat. There were a few songs that I’d skip. Overall, this album is pretty good and I would recommend it to people who enjoy pop.
