Community theatre to host spring break musical theatre camp

Camp at Chapelwood open to second through eighth graders

Wayne Township Community Theatre is offering an opportunity for students to grab their “Golden Ticket” and enroll in a Spring Break Theatre Camp that will present selections from Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka KIDS.

Open to students in second through eighth grade, camp will be held March 23-27 from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Chapelwood Elementary. Camp enrollment is $125, and the week-long experience will culminate with a final performance of the show on the Ben Davis High School Theatre stage at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27.

Willy Wonka KIDS follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding five golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whoever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy.

Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats: the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka’s rules in the factory — or suffer the consequences.

Campers will learn about a variety of theatre topics including singing, dancing, acting, backstage work, costuming, improvisation and theatre games. Registration is open now and will continue through March 13, based on a first-registered, first-served basis.
