Jalen Rice (No. 22) scored the winning goal unassisted  at the 85.29 mark of Marian’s 2-1 defeat of Mount Vernon Nazarene. The junior took five shots, four on goal for the Knights (9-7-2).  (See photo)

St. Mary-of-the-Woods (8-5-2) lost 3-0 to West Virginia Tech  in the River States Conference quarterfinals. Victor Villagomez and Taiwo Anifowose played all 90 minutes for the Pomeroy, while Fatoke Anjolaoluwa came off the bench for 22 minutes.

FOOTBALL

Starting defensive lineman Esezi Otomewo had four solo tackles and assisted on another for Minnesota (6-3, 4-2) in a 14-06 loss to Illinois.

Broc Thompson caught three passes for 22 yards, including an eight yard touchdown reception, for Purdue (6-3, 4-2) in a 40-29 upset win against previously undefeated Michigan State.

Dawand Jones started on the offensive line for Ohio State (8-1, 6-0) in a 26-17 defeat of Nebraska.

Delbert Mimms had one solo tackle and assisted on one for North Carolina State (7-2, 4-1_) in a 26-14 win against Florida State.

Daylan Carnell saw action for Missouri (4-5, 1-4) in a 43-6 loss to No. 1 Georgia.

Andrew Zulu played for Indianapolis (6-4, 4-2) in a 45-14 defeat of William Jewell.

Rose-Hulman (7-2, 6-0) defeated Franklin (5-4, 3-3) 38-14. Starting wide receiver Noah Thomas had seven receptions for 85 yards, including touchdown catches for 16 and 11 yards for Rose-Hulman. Braden McGowan saw action for Franklin.

Alfred Moore had five solo tackles, assisted on four others, and recovered a fumble for St. Francis (3-5) in a 31-28 loss to St. Francis. One of his solo tackles and one of his assisted tackles were sacks.

Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham (6-3, 5-2) defeated Alvernia 34-14. Starting wide receiver Adrian Reese had three receptions for 30 yards, with a long of 15, and assisted on a tackle for Fairleigh Dickinson.

Wayne Vaughn started at center for Manchester (2-7, 2-4) in a 31-7 loss to Bluffton.

Marian (8-2) defeated Siena Heights 28-6.  Trent Gipson caught one pass for 16 yards and the Knights’ first touchdown. Sir’ Zion Dance again led the team in tackles with six solos and two unassisted.

WOMENS BASKETBALL

Maya Turner played 13 minutes for Anderson (0-1) in a season opening 74-47 loss to Webster (MO) and had two points (1 for 8, 0 for 2, 0 for 1), three rebounds, one steal, and one turnover.

Micah Jett had two points (1 for 1), one steal, and one turnover in four minutes for IU-Kokomo (0-2) in a 69-58 loss to Grace.

MENS BASKETBALL

 Josh Shannon had seven points (3 for 5, 1 for 2, 0 for 0), two rebounds, and one assist for Illinois Central Community College (1-0)  in a 101-46 defeat of the St. Ambrose junior varsity.

Taylor (0-4) fell 66-61 to Rio Grande.  Jeff Clayton started for Taylor and had three points (1 for 1, 0 for 0, 1 for 4), eight rebounds, one blocked shot, and one turnover in 21 minutes.

Ball State lost 70-69 to division two Michigan Tech in an exhibition game. Jalen Windham played 21 minutes off the bench and had nine points  (2 for 5, 2 for 4, 3 for 4), two rebounds, and three steals.

Josh Brewer started for St. Mary’s, San Antonio (0-1) in a 52-43 loss to Texas State and had seven points (3 for 7, 1 for 5, 0 for 0), two rebounds, one assist, one blocked shot, and five turnovers in 24 minutes.

Kankakee Community College (3-0) defeated Moraine Community College 87-70, the Olivet Nazarene JV’s 84-65, and Harry Truman 95-53. Jaylan Jennings played 15, 14, and 13 minutes in the three wins and had totals of 19 points (8 for 15, 0 for 1, 3 for 4), 11 rebounds, three steals, four blocked shots, and five turnovers.

WOMENS CROSS COUNTRY

Indianapolis placed 14th of 30 teams at the NCAA division two regionals. Mariah Judy was sixth for the Greyhounds and 145th of 216 runners in 23:58.5 in the 6K race..
