Escamilla stars for Grizzlies

Franklin (2-4-0) earned its first mens soccer victory of the season, defeating Olivet 4-0. Dany Escamilla scored the Grizzlies’ third goal, and took three shots, one on goal. Franklin followed this win with a 2-0 defeat of Berea. The sophomore midfielder assisted on the winner’s first goal and took two shots during the match.

St. Mary-of-the-Woods (3-1-1) defeated Lincoln Christian 9-0 and Midway 5-3. In the Lincoln match, Taiwo  Anifowose scored two goals while playing 45 minutes. Andrew Aceituno was in the goal for 45 minutes and had two saves, while both Fatake Anjolaoluwa and Victor Villagomez played 45 minutes. Aceituno was in the goal for 90 minutes in the Midway win and had five saves while yielding three goals. Anifowose played 90 minutes; Anjolaoluwa, 39; and Villagomez 71.

MENS CROSS COUNTRY

Grace and Franklin competed at the 8K Ray Bullock Invitational at Taylor University. Grace’s Maurice Macklin placed 102nd of 171 (30:35.5), and Franklin’s Matt Lee was 149th (33:42.1).

Hayden Baldwin was sixth of 12 Indianapolis runners and 155th of 289 overall in 28:25.2 at the 22 team 8K Spartan Invitational at Michigan State. The Greyhounds placed 12th.

Trine’s Zach Brickler, competing at the 8K Mount St. Joseph Invitational, placed 31st of 33 runners in 30:15.0.

Competing primarily against D-I teams at the 8K John McNichols Invitational in Terre Haute,  Ernest Momodu was first for Vincennes and 89th of 149 overall in 28:29.3. Teammate Manamanya Opiew was second for his team and 90th overall in 28:38.1.

Kace Rhoades competed for Marian at the 8K National Catholic Invitational at Notre Dame and placed eighth for the Knights and 107th of 184 overall in 29:20.5.

WOMENS CROSS COUNTRY

Indianapolis’ Mariah Judy was eighth for the Greyhounds and 127th of 236 overall (25:06.2) at the 21 team 6K Spartan Invitational at Michigan State.

FOOTBALL

Sir’ Zion Dance started at linebacker for Marian (2-1) in a 40-17 defeat of St. Francis, Illinois and led the team with nine tackles, four of them solo. Trent Gipson also played for the Knights.

Wayne Vaughn started at center for Manchester (0-3) in a 59-7 loss to Olivet.

Starting wide receiver Noah Thomas caught nine passes for 171 yards, including a 36 yard TD reception, threw one incomplete pass, and rushed four times for minus one yard for Rose-Hulman (1-2)  in a 27-20 loss to Hope.

Franklin (2-1) suffered its first loss of the season, bowing 44-19 to Wisconsin-Platteville. Braden McGowan saw action for the Grizzlies.

Daylan Carnell had one solo tackle for Missouri (2-1) in a 59-28 win against Southeast Missouri State.

Delbert Mimms carried the ball five times for 38 yards, including a run of 19 yards, for North Carolina State (2-1) in a 45-7 defeat of Furman.

Dawand Jones again started on the offensive line for Ohio State, this time in the Buckeyes’ (2-1) 41-20 defeat of Tulsa.

Broc Thompson caught two passes for 18 yards for Purdue (2-1) in a 27-13 loss at Notre Dame.

Esezi Otomowo started on the defensive line for Minnesota (2-1) in a 30-0 defeat of Colorado.

Starting defensive back Reese Taylor had one solo tackle for Indiana (1-2) in a 38-24 loss to Cincinnati.
