Week ending August 31

MENS TENNIS

Marian (2-0) defeated both St. Francis and Huntington by 6-1 scores. Ian Deiters won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles against St. Francis and 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and 6-4 at No. 1 doubles against Huntington.

FOOTBALL

 Garden City Junior College (1-1) lost 30-27 to Snow and defeated Dodge City Community College 42-22. Willie Ervin played in both games for Garden City and recovered a fumble in the Snow loss.

Broc Thompson caught two passes for 54 yards, including a 43 yard reception, for Marshall (1-0) in a 57-17defeat of Virginia Military Institute (VMI).

Esezi Otomewo assisted on two tackles, one a sack, for Minnesota (1-0) in a 28-21 win against South Dakota State.

Elijah Ball played for Purdue (0-1) in a 34-31 loss to Nevada.

Jontae Dobson saw action for Southeast Missouri (1-0) in a 44-26 defeat of Southern Illinois.

Kailien Guillory played for Western Michigan (1-0) in a 48-13 win against Monmouth.

WOMENS CROSS COUNTRY

 Competing at the three team 5K Butler Twilight Meet, Ball State’s Maritza Rodriguez finished seventh of 30 runners in 18:37.3. Ball State was second to Butler, and IUPUI finished third.

VOLLEYBALL

In Purdue’s opening match, a 3-1 defeat of Ohio University, Shavona Cuttino was in the starting lineup and in four sets had seven kills with four errors in 12 attempts and six blocking assists with three blocking errors.

MENS CROSS COUNTRY

St. Mary-of-the-Woods won the five team 6K Principia Opener in a field that included Missouri Baptist, Principia, Blackburn, and St. Charles Community College.  Carlos Devalos was fifth for the Pomeroy and 10th of 42 overall in 23:10.34.

Indiana Tech’s Maurice Macklin participated in the Manchester Hokum-Karem. He and his teammate partner alternated running miles for a total of eight miles–four each. Macklin’s mile times were 5:24.2, 5:34.4, 5:37, and 5:25.8. He and his partner finished 27th of 40 pairs.

MENS GOLF

 Franklin finished 14th of 16 teams at the Transylvania Invitational. Robert Turner was fourth for the Grizzlies and 78th of 88 overall with scores of 81-78-84-243.

WOMENS SOCCER

Franklin (0-2) lost 1-0 to Trine and 2-0 to Concordia (Wisconsin). Taylor McDaniel took two shots against Trine and three against Concordia.
