Dom, Simms win county titles

Ben Davis sophomore Dom Day is the Marion County champion in the boys long jump.

Day jumped 22 feet 4.5 inches Wednesday night at North Central to claim the Giants lone individual championship of the meet. The Giants finished fourth as a team with 72 points. North Central won the county title with 130 points. Day also finished third in the high jump, clearing 6 feet 4 inches.

Senior Jamiu Lawal finished second in the pole vault (13 feet) while senior Isiah Cambell was third in the shot put (50’9.5″) and eighth in the discus (133’4″). Sophomore Maurice Higgins was second in the 400 (50.18), junior Yonas Araya was fifith in the 800 (2:01.57), the 4 by 100 relay team was second with a :42.24 and the 4 by 800 relay team was second in 8:09.5.

On Tuesday night night, our girls finished ninth with 38 points in a county meet dominated by No. 1 Warren Central. Senior Jaylinn Simms brought home the county championship in the discus with a throw of 133 feet.
