It is sectional time

Giants open postseason at home with Northwest

Way back in late November, the boys basketball team opened the season on a sunny Saturday afternoon with an 82-44 win over Northwest.

Tuesday night, Northwest visits Ben Davis in the second game of the opening night of boys basketball sectional play. Neighborhood rivals Perry Meridian and Southport start Tuesday’s action at 6 p.m. followed by the Ben Davis game.

The Giants are 3-1 against potential sectional opponents. A win Tuesday sets up a rematch against conference rival Pike in the second game Friday night. Pike beat the Giants in the sectional championship game last year and in the second game of the season this year. Ben Davis is 10-8 after finishing the regular season this past Friday with a 62-46 loss to Class 4A No. 2 Tech.

Carmel is a two-time defending state champion and enters the postseason 19-1 and ranked No. 1 in the state.
