Joe Biden has been in office for two months. Many parts of the transition from former president Donald Trump to current president Joe Biden were unlike ever before.

Even though it was clear that Biden was victorious, Trump refused to concede. He also didn’t make it clear that there would be a peaceful transition of power, ultimately resulting in a angry takeover of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, two weeks before Biden took office.

During his first day as president, Biden made action to rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement, mandated masks on all federal properties, removed Trump’s travel ban affecting Muslim nations and reversed his decision to withdraw from the World Health Organization.

Among other things, Biden promised 100 million vaccine doses in his first 100 days, which the country is on pace to beat . Now he is proposing that all U.S. adults should have the ability to be vaccinated by May 1 if they chose to be. Only 13% of adults are fully vaccinated thus far. Biden is also saying that vaccinated Americans should be able to gather in small groups by July 4th.

A big issue with the Trump Administration during the pandemic was the lack of support for families going through financial issues. Last March, a stimulus package including $1,200 checks for adults and $500 checks per child was passed. However, there wasn’t another payment until about nine months after that. Many democratic politicians called for $2,000 stimulus checks, but Trump never went through with it. Now, a package including up to $1,400 checks per adult and up to $3,000 per child between 6-17 is being put into effect.

However, not all has been good. Children are still being held and separated from their families at the US/Mexico border. The Biden Administration recently reopened a huge child detention center in southern Texas. While they claim the conditions are not as inhumane as they were under Trump’s Administration, the only ones who can determine that are the children held there.

FEMA has now been deployed to help take care of the children and teenagers crossing the border.

There is still plenty of work to be done. Hopefully it all gets done in a safe and timely manner.
