College prep night planned for Wednesday

It is never too soon to think about your path after high school graduation – we all know that education opens doors but the college admission process can feel overwhelming. In an effort to help our families simplify the process, Ben Davis is excited to host a college planning family night.

Students and families in grades 9-11 are invited to join us this Wednesday, April 26 from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The agenda for the event is below. You are invited to attend any of the sessions that are of interest to you.

Working Sessions

ScholarTrack Help – 5:30 – 8:00  p.m. – Media Center

Staff from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education will be available to help 21st Century Scholars and families create or update their ScholarTrack account.

NCAA Clearinghouse & Profile Page – 5:30 – 8:00 – B202

Student athletes in grades 10 and 11 can register for their free NCAA profile page.

Presentations

College Admission Process Overview – 5:30 – 6:00 – Media Center

Anna Coyne, College Admission Coordinator will provide an overview of the application process. Presentation will include; building your application list, types of applications, timelines, Naviance overview, and how to access campus visits.

 NCAA Clearinghouse 101 – 6:00 – 6:30 – Media Center

Brian Abney, School Counselor and football coach will dig into the academic eligibility requirements for an athletic scholarship. Participants will learn about core classes, the sliding scale, and other NCAA requirements.

 Scholar Success Program Overview – 6:30 – 7:00 – Media Center

Wendy Skibinski, Wayne Township Director of College & Career Readiness will provide an overview of the Scholar Success Program for 21st Century Scholars. Presentation will cover how the steps can keep students on track to graduate from high school and complete college.

SAT & ACT Timeline, Prep & Testing Strategy – 7:00 – 7:30 – Media Center

Anna Coyne & Wendy Skibninski will provide an overview of the SAT & ACT. Participants will learn about the best testing timeline, registration process, and how to prepare to obtain your best possible score.

What Students Need to Know Now to be Ready for Campus Life – 7:30 – 8:00 – Media Center
