Giants claim top spot in state poll

In a matchup of the state’s top two Class 4A boys basketball teams, Ben Davis sent No. 1 Cathedral home with a 62-50 loss Saturday night in the final game of the Forum Tipoff Classic.

Senior Zane Doughty led the Giants with 19 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks while junior KJ Windham added 20 points before rolling his ankle in the fourth quarter.  The win moves the Giants to the No. 1 spot in this weeks class 4A state polls. Ben Davis (7-0) hosts Warren Central (3-1) Friday and then visits Class 4A No. 4 Brownsburg (6-0) Saturday.

The last time Ben Davis was rated No. 1 in the state polls was Dec. 9, 2018 in coach Don Carlisle’s first season as coach. After being No. 1 at 6-0 that year, the Giants lost three straight starting with a home loss to Warren Central.
