It’s deja vu for the Ben Davis and Brownsburg football programs.

Last year Ben Davis started the season with a 33-22 loss to Brownsburg but came back to win a regional rematch against the Bulldogs 32-14.
This year, the Giants lost 21-16 on opening night at home to Brownsburg but both teams return for a Class 6A Sectional 5 remath this Friday.

Brownsburg enters the game ranked No. 2 in Class 6A and sporting an 8-1 record while Ben Davis is ranked No. 8 with a 6-3 record.

“Facing Brownsburg will be a tough challenge just like it was week one,” BD coach Jason Simmons said. “They have a high- powered offense, a physical defense, and their special teams execute at a high level. They are 8-1 and a tough challenge for us.”

This time, the Giants will have starting quarterback Thomas Gotkowski in action. Gotkowski transferred from Brownsburg a year ago and was not eligible for the season opener.

“Our team will be focused and ready to play hard,” Simmons said. “Our players are excited about the opportunity to represent Ben Davis football and start the post season tournament.”

The winner will face the Pike-Avon winner next week in the sectional championship.
