Giants claim sectional prize

Ben Davis started strong and never trailed in a 65-44 win over Southport in Saturday’s Class 4A Sectional 11 championship game.
That win followed a 58-40 win on Friday over Decatur Central and helped the Giants claim their fifth boys basketball sectional title in the past six years and 22nd sectional championship overall.
Ben Davis advances to this Saturday’s Southport Regional and will play Mount Vernon in the 10 a.m. opener. Mount Vernon is riding a 16-game win streak and is coached by former Ben Davis assistant Ben Rhoades, who is in his fourth year at Mount Vernon. Rhoades helped guide Ben Davis to the 2017 Class 4A state title.
The other regional game pits Cathedral against Terre Haute North with the winners of Saturday’s early games returning to Southport at 8 p.m. Saturday.
