The Ben Davis boys basketball team survived its last double-weekend of the regular season by beating Carmel 46-45 on Friday and then handling Crispus Attucks 62-39 on Saturday, its largest margin of victory ever over Attucks.

Th two wins improves the Giants to 22-0. Friday’s game was the closet of the season for the Giants, who are now ranked as high as No. 12 in national polls. The Giants survived in front of a raucous crowd when senior Clay Butler hit 5 of 6 fee throws in the final 30 seconds. Senior Zane Doughty led the Giants with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocked shots.

The boys are off until hosting Covenant Christian on Feb. 7 and then Lawrence North for Senior Night on Feb. 10

While the boys were earning coach Don Carlisle’s first-ever win against Carmel, the girls team also took care of Carmel with a a 66-51 win at home on Senior Night. Senior Cristen Carter ledt the lady Giants with 18 points and 4 rebounds while senior Taylor Guess had 8 points and 12 rebounds.

The girls (14-9) start sectional play Tuesday night against Southport (10-12) at Southport (7 p.m. tip). A win advances them to Friday’s first game against Pike.

In wrestling action this past weekend, the Giants finished third as a team with 188 points at the Avon sectional. Advancing to this weekend’s Mooresville regional are junior Keith Parker (35-2 at 126 pounds), sophomore Jeremiah Drake (26-12 at 132 pounds), senior Austin Beasley (23-15 at 145 pounds), junior Greg Eckels (29-6 at 152 pounds), junior Shaun Raymon (14-5 at 160 pounds), senior Alex Ramsey (21-6 at 182 pounds), junior Carlos Villaverde (13-6 at 195 pounds), sophomore Jeremiah Finch (28-12 at 220 pounds), and senior Max McKean (29-8 at 285 pounds)
