Goss leads Toledo to tourney win

Toledo (27-5) opened play in the Women’s NIT with a 61-51 defeat of Houston Baptist. Kehra Goss had 12 points (6 for 7, 0 for 0, 0 for 1), five rebounds ,one assist, and one steal in 33 minutes for the winners.

BASEBALL

LSU-Shreveport (26-2) won two against The University of the Southwest. Zion Avery had two hits and two RBIs in five at bats in the two wins and leads the team with a .397 batting average (29 for 73).

Ian Schilling pitched one inning for Cumberland (16-15, 9-2) in two wins, an 8-1  defeat of Bryan; and a 19-9 win against Cumberlands. Against Bryan he pitched to only three batters, retiring each of them. In his outing against Cumberlands, each of his outs was a strike out; but he gave up two hits, three walks, and four earned runs in addition to the strikeouts.

MENS OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD

 Hanover, Franklin, and Rose-Hulman competed at the Early Bird Meet at Rose-Hulman. Hanover’s Jalen Simmons won the pole vault (13-0). Rose-Hulman’s Tyler Speitel was eighth of 21 in the 800 (2:08.02), and Franklin’s Corbin Lee was 19th in the 5000 (17:57.01).

WOMENS OUT DOOR TRACK AND FIELD

Simi Akinrinsola competed for Kentucky at Central Florida’s Black and Gold Invitational and placed 11th of 43 in the shot put (45-10 ½)  and 27th of 45 in the hammer throw (144-9).
