Doughty a finalist for Mr. Basketball

staff report

Senior Zane Doughty has been named one of six finalists for the coveted Indiana Mr. Basketball honor.

Doughty just completed a magical season where he became the Giants all-time career leader in rebounds with 796 and was named both the MIC and Marion County player of the year. He averaged 13.5 points and 9.2 rebounds a game. He finished his career with 947 points and 251 blocked shots.

Doughty, a 6-foot-9 center, was a big reason why the Giants went 33-0 and won the Class 4A state championship. He played on three straight sectional championship teams. Doughty decommitted from Valparaiso after the state game and is considering other offers.

The other finalists include Cathedral’s Xavier Booker, Penn’s Markus Burton, Heritage Christian’s Myles Colvin, Linton-Stockton’s Joey Hart and Valparaiso’s Mason Jones.

The winner will be announced April 19 at the Indiana High School Sports Awards banquet, presented by the Indiana Pacers. Mr. Basketball is awarded to the senior who receives the most votes from the state’s high school coaches and media.
