Coach Don Carlisle knows what it will take for his Giants to win the Marion County boys basketball title, a championship that has eluded Ben Davis since 1995 when Carlisle was a sophomore here.

“Being consistent with your effort, and preparation, being in shape, playing a lot of back-to-back games, and being mentally tough,” Carlisle said as the Giants prepare to host Beech Gove in tonight’s county opener.

The Giants stand at 14-0 and have been No. 1 in Class 4A since beating Cathedral in early December. Over the holiday break, the boys won the Hall of Fame Classic before winning at North Central (75-59) and at home against George Washington (67-36).

“There’s not much to say about a group that has won every game that they have played, I will say this — we have not played to our potential yet so there are plenty things to fix as a coaching staff and we concentrate on those things,” Carlisle said.

If the Giants win tonight, they host the Warren Central vs. Park Tudor winner tomorrow. The finals are this weekend at Southport.
