Staff report

The honors keep rolling in for speech teacher Gary Peters.

This past weekend Peters was inducted into the Indiana Schools Speech and Debate Association (ISSDA) Hall of Fame. This past summer, Peters was also voted as the 2022 National High School Federation of Teachers Speech and Theatre Educator of the Year for Section 4.

Making the ISSDA Hall of Fame is considered the highest honor for any speech and debate coach in the state of Indiana.

Peters is the fourth full-time teacher and fifth overall from Ben Davis to earn Hall of Fame recognition.

He joins former teachers Max McQueen (1980 – First Hall of Fame Class), Larry Highbaugh (1985), and Sam O’Conner (2012, Former Executive Director of ISSDA) as well as lay coach Fred Douse (2017) in the Hall of Fame.
