It’s time for some football

Ben Davis has appeared in three straight Class 6A semistate football games.

Coach Jason Simmons is anxious for his team to take the next step and reach the state finals. That journey begins with a season-opener at home against Brownsburg, a team the Giants beat 32-14 in the regional round last season. Brownsburg enters with a preseason ranking of No. 4 by the state coaches association while Ben Davis is rated No. 7.

“You can expect our program to be prepared, physical, and for our players to play hard,” Simmons said.

Simmons says his Giants need to play smart, tough football.

“We’re working on developing our football IQ and concentrating on identifying areas we need to grow and develop,” he said. “I don’t know that we are doing anything differently, however that individualized focus has improved.”

Simmons thinks Brownsburg will be a challenging season opener.

“Brownsburg has quite a few starters back this season,” he said. “It will be a formidable test to open the season.”

The Giants are 7-3 all-time against Brownsburg. The photos posted are from last week’s scrimmage with Westfield and Carmel.
