WBDG, BDTV combine to win four national awards

WBDG and Ben Davis Television won a total of four national awards at the IBS Awards in New York City this past weekend.

Ben Davis senior Owen Pulley, Monrovia senior Maxwell Gillie and Avon senior Lucas McKee won first place in Best Sports Talk Show for their show “The Sports Spotlight” which airs Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:45 a.m. on WBDG. It was the second year in a row that WBDG took home first place in this category with “Inside Ben Davis Football” taking first last year.
Gillie and 2022 Danville graduate Jacksen White placed first in Women’s Basketball Play-by-Play for their call of the Columbus East at Ben Davis girls basketball game from December 14, 2021.
Gillie also was the student producer on the winning entry with community volunteer Emerson Allen for Best Public Affairs Program. This was the August 19, 2022 edition of School Talk with Emerson. That episode featured Ben Davis College Admissions Coordinator Kiara Cross. School Talk has won awards from the IBS in 2020, 2022 and 2023.
WBDG now has won nine first place IBS Awards since 2019.
On the video side, BDTV took first place in Best Variety Program for a music video by Danny Young, David Lusk, Lily Nagel and Austin Wilson. This was BDTV’s first-ever IBS Award in their first year entering the competition.
