staff report

The eighth annual Wayne Winter Games and Giant Health Fair is coming up and is back in-person.

This year’s event is set for March 11 at the Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center (enter door 5). This power-packed day delivers exciting fitness opportunities, a health fair, workshops, and classes relating to fun movement and health. Prizes will be awarded throughout the day.

“The Wayne Winter Games provides a great opportunity to engage the community in health, wellness, and some physical activity during the winter months,” said Wayne Township Education Foundation Executive Director Lisa Baize. WTEF is the primary organizer of the event.

“Some of the folks who take part in the competitive event are seasoned athletes, and others are at the beginning of their journey towards improved health,” said Mrs. Baize. “That’s the best thing about this event – there’s something for everyone who’s interested in health, fitness, and community.”

In the team competition, from 8-10 a.m., teams of four will compete in a series of fitness activities including a relay. Teams must include at least one male and one female and all members must be at least 18 years old. All team members will receive a t-shirt for participating. There is a $40 fee for each team, and prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.

Do you want to sweat a little less? Then join in the Wayne Winter Games’ family fun activities from 9:30 a.m.-noon. Participants will receive an award for completing their activity/event “passport,” and prizes will be awarded through the day. Fitness Fun Stations include ball dribbling, cup stacking, smoothie bike and hula hoops, just to name a few of the stations hosted by all Wayne Township schools!

Our Health Fair and Demonstrations take place from 9:30 a.m.-noon as well. More than 100 health and wellness organizations will be on hand with information, classes and demonstrations including health screenings, healthy meals, bike safety, fire safety, workout Zumba, and more.

Event sponsors include IU Health; Church, Church, Hittle & Antrim; Epic Insurance Midwest; Powers & Sons Construction; KI Furniture; Steele Benefit Services; along with Platinum sponsors: Canon IV; Schmidt Associates; the Indianapolis Airport Authority; Veregy; and the IUPUI School of Health & Human Sciences.
