staff report

Dave Erickson is the new deputy construction officer for the MSD of Wayne Township.

Erickson will coordinate with MSD Wayne Chief Operations Officer Pete Just to oversee all construction projects in the district from conception to completion. He will work closely with principals, architects, and engineers to agree on specifications, plans and blueprints for construction projects. He will also help to value engineer and develop timetables for those projects.

“Among his many duties, Mr. Erickson will ensure quality construction standards and the use of proper construction techniques,” said Just. “He’ll also work with our director of facilities to manage and annually update our 25-year preventive maintenance plan. The expertise Mr. Erickson brings to this position will help us use our taxpayers’ dollars even more effectively and efficiently.”

Erickson began his career in construction in 1996 at Morton Buildings, Inc. in Norman, Oklahoma. Since that time, he has served as project manager at Hensel Phelps Construction in Orlando, Florida; owner of Erickson Consulting and Construction in Indianapolis; and construction manager for FA Wilhelm Construction in Indianapolis. For the past seven years, he has served as project manager for James McHugh Construction in Chicago.

Erickson has managed a wide variety of projects, ranging in size from a few thousand dollars to more than $100 million. Most recently, he managed the hotel portion of Vista Tower, which is a 101-story building, the third tallest skyscraper in Chicago. He also replaced the existing ferris wheel at Navy Pier with a new, larger ferris wheel.

Erickson earned his bachelor of science degree in construction management from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. The MSD of Wayne Township Board of Education approved his hiring at its regular meeting on November 9.
