Boys track claim indoor state

Squad wins fourth title in past seven years

Fueled by a one-six finish in the 60 meters, the Ben Davis boys track team won its fourth indoor state championship in the past seven years Saturday afternoon at Purdue University.

Senior Derrick Jones won the 60 meters in :06.99 while junior Chris Evans was seventh in :07.18. Those 13 points were critical for the Giants, who won with 55 points while Warren Central was second with 48 points.

Evans also placed third in the long jump at 21’5″ while junior Christian Powell was fifth with a jump of 21’2.5″.

Junior Jalil Brewer finished second in the shot put with a throw of 56’7″ while the 4 by 200 relay finished third and the 4 by 400 relay also finished third.

In the girls race, the Giants came in 12th with 18 points. The lady Giants has a 3-6-7 finish in the 60 meters with sophomore Kyara Simmons finishing third in :07.71, junior Ravon Woodson finishing sixth in :07.83 and junior Dajia Collier finishing seventh in :07.89.

Junior Erynn Young finished fourth in the high jump by clearing 5’5″ while Woodson placed seventh in the long jump at 16’11”.
