Lending a hand

Are your plans for this summer looking a little uneventful? If so, why not dedicate your time and effort to those in need.
There are many fun and interesting opportunities to volunteer around Indianapolis this summer that are just a call or application away.

The Ronald McDonald House is a great place to volunteer. The Ronald McDonald House is a loving and supporting place where families with seriously ill or injured children can call a home away from home while they receive treatment at Indianapolis Hospitals.

Guest volunteering responsibilities include greeting guests and visitors, check families in and out and assist with administrative projects. You can also conduct a fundraiser which can be fun and puts your creative skills to the test.

If this volunteering opportunity interests you, go to http://www.rmh-indiana.org/ and contact the volunteering coordinator to get started.

If you prefer working with furry faced creatures, the organization Heaven after Hell Animal Rescue is looking for summer volunteers. Heaven after Hell is dedicated to placing abused or abandoned dogs in wonderful, loving homes. To volunteer with this organization go to http://heavenafterhellrescue.org/, go to contact and fill out your information and a message stating you would like to volunteer.

Another great place to volunteer for those with limited transportation is the Food Pantry. They are looking for summer volunteers. To get more information contact Michelle Stohler of the Title 1 Family & Community Liaison at Chapelwood Elementary at 317-988-6482.

If you are interested in more of the health/medical field, St. Vincent’s has an excellent volunteer program from greeting, helping guests, and helping at the gift shop. To learn more, go to www.stvincent.org or contact volunteer services at 317-338-2268.
