Senior Thomas Gotkowski and coach Russ Mann were named player of the year and coach of the year by a vote pf the Marion County football coaches yesterday.
Mann is in his first season as head coach and has the No. 3 rated Giants at 12-1 heading into Saturday’s Class 6A state championship game against Crown Point. He is the third BD coach to reach state, following Dick Dullghan and Mike Kirschner.
Gotkowski, a two-year starter, has passed for 2,523 and 31 touchdowns while rushing for 341 yards and six touchdowns. He has signed to play at Miami of Ohio next season.
Ben Davis was well represented on the all-county squad including junior Mark Zackery IV, the Defensive Player of the Year. Zackery has 37 tackles, four interceptions, three fumble recoveries and two caused fumbles, along with 47 receptions for 736 yards and seven TDs on offense.
Lawrence North junior wide receiver Davion Chandler, who was named the county’s Offensive Player of the Year.
